BAGSY ●Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Operated by: [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("Bagsy", "we", "us") · Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL] · [MAILING ADDRESS]

This policy describes how Bagsy is built to handle information. It was prepared without attorney review; you may want a lawyer's pass before public launch. Replace every [BRACKETED] value before publishing.

1. What this covers

This policy applies to the Bagsy website, web app, and mobile apps. It covers everyone who uses Bagsy — visitors, free members, and subscribers.

2. What we collect

Account information. Name, email, phone number, and sign-in details when you create an account.

Search and alert activity. Your saved searches, alert settings, and the listings you view, save, share, or apply to. This is the product working, not tracking for its own sake.

Passport documents (optional). If you build a Passport, we store the documents you upload — such as photo ID, pay stubs, employment letters, and bank statements — encrypted, for one purpose: assembling rental applications you explicitly choose to send.

Screening data. Credit and background screening is performed by a licensed consumer reporting agency partner, only with your express written authorization, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Bagsy does not compile consumer reports itself and requests only soft-inquiry credit checks, which do not affect your credit score.

Shared listings. Content you forward into Bagsy through the share feature — text and screenshots of housing posts you already have access to. Screenshots may incidentally include the original poster's name; our review process is designed to publish the listing details, not the poster's personal information.

Payment information. Subscriptions are billed by our payment processors (and by Apple or Google for in-app purchases). We receive confirmation of your plan and payment status; we never see or store full card numbers.

Device and usage data. App version, device type, crash reports, IP address, and basic product analytics used to keep the service reliable.

3. How we use it

To run the service you signed up for: showing the unified feed, sending the alerts you configured, screening listings for fraud, assembling and delivering applications you initiate, processing subscriptions, responding to support requests, and keeping Bagsy secure. We may send service messages about your account; marketing messages are optional and you can opt out any time.

4. What we don't do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share or sell your data for third-party advertising. We do not share Passport documents or screening reports with anyone except the landlord, broker, or property manager you direct an application to. We do not use protected characteristics in ranking or recommending listings (see Section 6).

5. When we share

With service providers who process data on our instructions (hosting, storage, payments, push notifications, analytics, and our screening partner), each bound by contract to use it only for Bagsy. With the recipient you choose when you send an application. With authorities when the law genuinely requires it. In a merger or acquisition, where this policy would continue to bind your data.

6. Fair housing

Bagsy does not use, and does not permit the use of, protected characteristics — race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, familial status, disability, source of income, age, or any category protected by federal, New York State, or New York City law — in ranking, filtering, recommending, or advertising listings. Listings that violate fair housing laws are removed and reported where appropriate.

7. Security

Documents and personal data are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to Passport documents is restricted and logged. We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards consistent with the New York SHIELD Act, and we will notify you and regulators of a breach as the law requires.

8. Retention and deletion

You can delete individual Passport documents, saved searches, or your entire account at any time in the app or by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]. Deletion removes your data from active systems promptly and from backups on a fixed schedule. We keep transactional and billing records only as long as tax and accounting law requires, and screening authorizations as long as the FCRA requires.

9. Your rights and choices

You may request access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]; we will verify the request and respond within the window your state's law sets. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and Virginia) may have additional rights, including appeal of a refusal — since we do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising, there is nothing to opt out of on that front. You can turn push notifications off in your device settings and unsubscribe from marketing email with one click.

10. Children

Bagsy is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete it.

11. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and update the date at the top.
